Sleeper Changing and drainage works

Saturday 26th February, Harmby cutting

 

Digging out the old sleepers is under way

 

Some of the old sleepers had the through-bolt style fastenings on, which required cutting off.

 

The new sleepers are placed out ready for use

 

Drains are cleared of years worth of silt and rubbish

 

 

 

Level Crossing repairs

Saturday 5th February, Bedale Crossing

The rubber units were suffering from the impact of recent heavy traffic

 

All the crossing units were removed

 

The four foot required cleaning out before work could continue

 

Once the mud and rubbish had been removed a fresh load of ballast was put in place

 

Tie bars were put in place and pandrol clips replaced

 

The finished job, work finished fairly late hence the poor picture.

 

 

Sleeper Changing

Saturday 29th January, Leyburn East

No trains were running, allowing us to make the most of the posession

 

The new sleepers can be seen spaced out at the lineside

 

20 sleepers were changed

 

Rail changes

Friday 7th and Saturday 8th January, Blind Lane and Preston Under scar

Rails are loaded onto the salmon at Leyburn on the Friday

 

Barring one of the rails off the salmon

Saturday morning at Blind Lane,  the new rail is turned and lifted into position

 

 

The rail is dropped into the chairs and is ready to be connected

Saturday afternoon, removal of the cracked rail

 

The new rail is cut to length

 

The fishplate holes are drilled
