Sleeper Changing, Week 1 of 'Operation Pathfinder'
Saturday 23rd Jan, East of Leeming Bar
Jan 9th at Leeming Bar, looking east towards Northallerton. It looks nice, but its not the weather for trackwork!
Operation Pathfinder is a project with the aim of replacing 300+ sleepers before the end of March 2010, between Leeming Bar and Northallerton. The first days work should have been on January 9th, but due to the weather conditions this was cancelled. Work eventually started on the 20th Jan when volunteers started the digging out of the defective sleepers. Saturday 23rd saw the first full day of sleeper changing when 32 were replaced.
An early start on the Saturday was essential, its possible to see the sleepers that had been dug out on the Wednesday.
A sleeper that has seen better days
Looking west, sleepers are laid out ready for use.
Work moves at a good pace
