Embankment support, pre ballasting

Saturday 24th April, Westfields, Wensley and Preston under Scar

Used sleepers from 'Operation Pathfinder' are used to build a wall, ready for fresh ballast to be dropped and add some much needed support to the track. This picture is taken looking East from Westfields.

 

More of the same at Preston under Scar, the ballast is due to be dropped on Wednesday 28th

 

 

Rail replacement

Saturday 20th March, West of Crakehall

The new rail having the fishplate bolt holes drilled

 

The rail saw is attatched to the new rail ready for cutting. Replacement of old wooden keys and chair fastenings are being checked in the background.

 

The old rail is turned out and the new rail is cut.
