Sleeper replacement, crossing replacement and rail replacement
August 8th,Crakehall and Akebar
The 2 concrete sleepers required replacing
The sleepers were cut in half to make removal easier
Even when in half, they still take some shifting
The sleepers were replaced with wooden ones and packed accordingly. The fishplates were also oiled while we were on.
The next job of the day was to replace this farm crossing, the timbers in the background formed the existing crossing!
Although it looks overgrown, it is still used. Work continues with the digging out of the four foot, ready for the new timbers to be layed.
The new timbers are fastened into place. Some vegetation clearance was also done
A fractured rail needed replacing near Akebar
This is the replacement rail being drilled
The rail is in place, although it looks rusty and old, it is actually in very good condition.
